Dear Friends of Squash:

First of all, on behalf of the Council of the Barbados Squash Rackets Association (BSRA), let me wish all of you and your families a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.

Please join with me to congratulate Ms. Nadia McCarthy , who was awarded the Female Junior Outstanding Sportsperson award for 2004 at the National Sports Council ?s (NSC) Annual Awards Ceremony last night. As you will recall, Nadia won a bronze medal at the 3 rd annual Junior Pan-American Squash Championships last November in Chile and was the first person from the English speaking Caribbean to win any medal at these regional Championships. Nadia was also a member of the silver medal winning Girls’ team at those same championships [N.B. Nadia?s other team members in Chile were: Bo Harris, Cheri-Ann Parris and Maia Blackman (reserve)]. Nadia was also a member of the gold medal winning Girls’ team to the 22 nd annual Junior Caribbean Squash Championships in Cayman in July, 2004. [N.B. Her other team members on that occasion were: Bo Harris, Maia Blackman, Cheri-Ann Parris and Tanya Marshall].

Hearty congratulations are also extended to Mr. Rudy Goodridge who was awarded a special award last night by the NSC for his outstanding lifetime contribution to the sport of squash in Barbados [N.B. The other recipient of this award last night was Mr. David Harris from Table Tennis].

I am also delighted to inform you that, along with Mrs. Monica Cumberbatch [Hockey], I was also presented with a NSC award last night for being the Sports Administrator of the Year for 2004.

Thank you to all the hard working volunteers, coaches, administrators and parents, who by their efforts made the above awards possible. I would also like to especially thank the BSRA officials on the above mentioned tours: Mrs. Sherry Cumberbatch (Team Manager to Junior CASA in Cayman), Mr. Monty Cumberbatch (Team Manager to the Junior PanAm Championships in Chile ) and to Mr. Richard Walcott (National Junior Team Coach on both tours). Our junior teams could not have achieved their successes last year without the contributions of those three individuals.

Hopefully the BSRA will be able to use these awards and the P.R. generated there from to springboard to greater achievement in 2005 and beyond!!

Best wishes to one and all,

Sincerely,
BARBADOS SQUASH RACKETS ASSOCIATION
