Exciting Week of Squash in Barbados begins July 3rd!
Exciting action in this year’s FIRST CITIZENS Barbados Squash Open is expected all week when play begins from 5:30 p.m. this afternoon July 3rd at the Barbados Squash Club, Marine Gardens, when the Men’s B competition serves off. The Men’s A and Ladies draws look very competitive and will begin from 4:45 p.m. tomorrow. Karen Meakins is the defending ladies champion and has been named top seed. She has played in this event on thirteen previous occasions and has won it twelve times. Other top local ladies who have entered are Cheri-Ann Parris (C’bbn #4), Nadia McCarthy (C’bbn #10) and Alex Jordan. The top men’s seed is the defending champion from Guyana: Richard Chin (C’bbn #3). Other top players who have entered include:
Shawn Simpson (C’bbn #8) and local Men’s Champion, Gavin Cumberbatch (C’bbn #9); as well as some other top Caribbean players, e.g. Colin Ramasra (TRI) and Kevin Bailey (SVG).
As in previous years there is a Ladies event, a Men’s “A” event and a Men’s “B” event with a total of 42 competitors in all. The Tournament Director is Craig Archer who will be assisted by Marlon White. The Tournament Referee is Orson Simpson and he will be assisted by Terry Millar. All matches will be at the Barbados Squash Club, Marine Gardens, Hastings, Barbados and admission to the venue for the public is free.
