TOP SQUASH SEEDS ADVANCE IN BARBADOS SQUASH OPEN

The Men’s top seed and three time defending champion, Shawn Badrinath (Guyana), made an impressive return to court #1 at the Barbados Squash Club (BSC) last night (Wednesday) as the top sixteen Men’s ?A? competition got underway in the 2005 Caribbee / Playfair Barbados Squash Open . In his opening encounter against the hard hitting under-19 Canadian, Steven Peever, Badrinath looked completely at ease and dazzled the audience with his amazing agility and speed about the court and his wide array of impressive winners, especially the boast, from every part of the court. The red haired Peever won the first point of the match but never led again and went down 9/1 9/1 9/2 in 30 minutes. Likewise the #2 seed, Gavin Cumberbatch, was never troubled by local squash administrator, Craig Archer, and won easily 9/4 9/3 9/1 in 25 minutes. One of the only two seeded players to fall was the #8 seed and national Men’s captain, Nigel Griffith, who clawed his way of a two games to love hole to even his match at two games all and at one time led 6-2 in the fifth game before faltering against the hard hitting Jamaican teenager, Chris Binnie, the reigning Caribbean under-17 champion, who claimed the final seven points of the match in two hands to win 9/1 9/1 7/9 8/10 9/6 in 51 minutes.
