By an overwhelming vote at the last World Squash Federation (WSF) Annual General Meeting in Manchester in October 2008 it was agreed that the official scoring system for the world singles game of squash will now be point-a-rally (PAR) to 11 ? the same system that the pro men on the PSA tour have been using since 2004 and that the pro women on the WISPA tour have adopted since June, 2008. This change will come into effect worldwide from April 1, 2009. [Of course, for friendly, non-competition matches there is no reason why the old hand-in hand-out to 9 points system can?t be used. That system is now an WSF-approved alternative scoring method].
At a recent Council Meeting of the BSRA it was agreed that the change would be made from the first BSRA run tournament in Barbados this year ? i.e. the Junior National Squash Championships (scheduled for April 17-19, 2009). However, one local club has already taken the plunge! The Barbados Squash Club?s In-House League that got underway on March 2, 2009 is already using PAR to 11.
We haven’t heard any complaints as yet!
