The 19th Southern Caribbean Squash Championships get underway later this morning at the Barbados Squash Club (BSC), Marine Gardens, Hastings, Christ Church. This prestigious event, the second largest on the squash calendar in the English speaking Caribbean, was first held in 1978 as an annual event. It is now contested every two years and was last held in August 2004 in Guyana. Approximately 70 athletes and officials from Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago and the O.E.C.S. (i.e. St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the BVI), as well as host country Barbados, will participate in this week-long event, beginning with the individual championships (August 14-16th) and culminating with the team event (August 17-19th).

The first round of matches begin on August 14th at 10:00 a.m. The second round begins at 3:00 p.m. and continues until approx. 9:00 that night. The quarter-finals and semi-finals will be contested on Tuesday, August 15th beginning at 9:00 a.m. and continuing until 9:00 p.m. All finals will be contested in the afternoon and evening of Wednesday, August 16th.
The eagerly anticipated team event between the men, ladies and veterans teams from Barbados, Guyana, the O.E.C.S. and Trinidad and Tobago will commence at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 17th.
Admission to the BSC is free and all are invited to come down to the club and enjoy some top class squash from some of the best players in the Southern Caribbean region.
