The Barbados Squash Club (BSC) was the venue for the largest audience seen in local squash for many years when the current World #6 player, Natalie Grainger, from the USA played a couple of exhibition matches against top local players.
First on court was the current Barbados #1 and Caribbean #2 lady, Karen Meakins, who played brilliantly and delighted the large crowd with excellent length and clinging drops to come up with a two games to one victory (9/2 6/9 9/6) in just over half an hour. Next up was top local male player and Caribbean #4, Gavin Cumberbatch and, in a winner take all single game played using the current point-a-rally scoring to 11 PSA format, Ms. Grainger showed her class with a hard hitting victory by 11 points to 9.
Afterwards the graciously smiling former world #1 was happy to answer questions from the very appreciative audience on her training methods and plans for the future. Another brief session by Natalie showing some of her training routines is planned for the BSC on Saturday afternoon April 1st between 4:00 & 5:00 p.m. Admission to the BSC all afternoon is free and national senior and junior level players are especially encouraged to come down to the BSC to see how a world class squash player prepares herself for a major tournament.
