There is still only one unbeaten team in the BSRA’s Inter-Club Squash League after Wednesday night’s round of ties at three different squash venues on Match Day 4.
At the Barbados Squash Club the last unbeaten team, the Blasters eked out a hard fought victory over the Boasters by three matches to two. In winners row for the Blasters were #3 Cliff Nolan, #4 Ashok Merai and #5 Ronald Watson who defeated Jerry Hutchinson, David Spink and Jonathan O?Dowd respectively. The Boasters victories were from #1 Mark Sealy and #2 Jason Small who defeated Karen Meakins and Craig Archer to keep their team in contention.
Final result: Blasters 14 points, Boasters 7 points.
On court #2 the Battalion B team roared back into contention with a convincing display over the Bombers by four matches to one. John Cumberbatch, brothers Nkosi and Liu Ross and Bertram Butcher all easily defeated their respective Bombers? opponents: Nigel Griffith, Lilianna White, Carla Jackson and Nick Paddison. A clean sweep was averted by the Bombers?, Mickey Armstrong, who convincingly defeated Philip Lewis in straight games.
Final result: Battallion B 15 points, Bombers 5 points.
At Pleasant Place, the Strikers edged out the Bouncers team by three matches to two with wins from Gavin Cumberbatch, Andre Donawa and Cheri-Ann Parris over Andy Gill, Roger Martin and David Foster respectively. Both David Lewis and Carolyn Last-Johnson were victorious for the Bouncers against Michael Best and Stewart St. John respectively.
Final result: Pleasant Place Strikers 13 points, Bouncers 8 points.
At the Barbados Defense Force the defending champions Battalion A team suffered its second defeat of the campaign going down to the PP Strugglers by two matches to three in another close tie. The Strugglers triumphs were from Shawn Simpson, Tim O?Neal and Sylvester Nurse who defeated Marlon White, Don Benn and Ambrose Deane respectively. The home team fans were lifted by Norman Rice and David Goodman who both won in straight games against Bo Harris and Cilla Seale respectively.
Final result: Strugglers: 12 points, Battalion A 7 points.
The ICL standings after Match day 4 are given in the spreadsheet below. The Blasters currently top the points table with 60 points, with the Battalion B and the Bouncers tied for second on 44 points and the Pleasant Place Strikers fourth on 43. The four remaining teams are all within seven points so all eight teams still have a chance of making it into the knockout semi-final round in two weeks time.
