BOA Barbados Senior National Squash Championships 2018

ONCE AGAIN IT IS SIMPSON AND BEST - 10TH AND 3RD NATIONAL TITLES RESPECTIVELY

Curtains fell yesterday (Sunday) on the 44th Annual BOA Barbados Senior National Squash Championships which was sponsored by the Barbados Olympic Association (BOA). At the end of the five days of competition, Shawn Simpson has once again proven that he is Mr Consistency embracing his 10th National Title after twenty minutes of edge cutting shots in his final match against Bryant Cumberbatch the #2 seed. Simpson settled the score (3-0) 11-9,11-1, 11-4.

Playing for the 3rd and 4th place positions were Gavin Cumberbatch and Mark Sealy. Cumberbatch displayed tremendous dominance as he dismissed Sealy (3-0) 11-4, 11-6-11-8.

In other Men’s matches, Zaki Williams faced off with Tony Mackenzie for 5th/6th position. Williams defeated MacKenzie (3-0) 11-7, 14-12, 11-3. Then, Leon Truss easily took the 7th position after Terry Millar retired from the competition. Darien Benn showed Andrei Grant that size was not a factor as he made a phenomenal recovery from being 2 games down to take the match (3-2) 6-11, 9-11, 13-11, 11-4, 11-1 winning the Consolation plate to finish in 9th position.

In the Ladies Final match, the spectators where indeed sitting on the edge of their seats for the most part as Meagan Best and Amanda Haywood displayed a highly contentious level of play to see who will take the Title. After taking the first game 11-9, Best dropped the second to Haywood 9-11 who returned to court showing great precision and determination to respond to Best’s shots. However, this was not enough to take Haywood through as Best was able to pull away in the last two games 11-8, 11-4, claiming her 3rd Ladies National Senior Title.

3rd Place in the Ladies went to Jada Smith-Padmore who with her athletic strength and attacking power shots dismissed Sumairaa Suleman (3-0) 11-8, 11-7, 11-8.
