Massy United Insurance Junior Open Championships 2016

The 2016 Massy Junior tournament saw 27 junior players vie for titles in six age categories; Boys U13, Boys U17, Boys U19, Girls U17, Mixed U11 and Mixed U15.

1st in the Boys U13 was Darien Benn after he defeated Alex Stewart in the finals (3-1) 11-3,7-11,11-7,11-4. Aidan Parris finished in 3rd place after defeating Zishan Motara (3-0) 11-0, 11-2, 11-1.

Mikal Quashie (SVG) took the Boys U17 title after an exciting match with Chermar Burnham where he recovered from 2 games down to win the match (3-2) 6-11,3-11,13-11,11-4,11-5. 3rd place went to Darien Benn after he defeated Ryan Archer (3-0) 11-4,11-8,11-5.

The Boys U19 title went to Zachary Harris after winning all 4 of his round-robin matches against Chermar Burnham (3-0), Kemar Lord (3-0), Mikal Quashie (4-1) and Joshua Seale (walkover). Mikal Quashie finished in 2nd place and Chemar Burnham took the 3rd place.

Girls U17 title went to Chelsie Samuel after she defeated Jodi Smith-Padmore in 2  best of 3 matches. The first match she won (4-1) 11-6,11-9,6-11,11-6 and in the second match she won (4-1) 11-2,9-11,11-6,11-8.

Chelsie Samuel also took the title in the Mixed U15 category after defeating Aidan Parris who advanced to the final after Jada Smith-Padmore withdrew from the tournament due to illness. Samuel defeated Parris (3-0) 11-4,11-7,11-9. Jodi Smith-Padmore took the 3rd place after she won her match against Ryan Archer (3-0) 11-8,11-9,11-1.

Alex Stewart took the title in the Mixed U11 category after convincingly defeating Jordan Greig (3-0) 11-3,11-0,11-1. Zishan Motara captured the 3rd place after an exciting match played against Rebekah Nichols (3-2) 11-5,11-5,13-15,10-12,11-9. Alejandro Mayers won the Classic Plate to finish 5th while Seth Parris was the winner of the Consolation plate after he defeated Kimani Taitt (3-0) 11-2,11-5,14-12.

Over the 3 days the juniors displayed their eagerness to improve their squash skills and compete successfully. The number of juniors are slowly increasing. Some juniors were unavailable to participate due to travel and other commitments but the competition was exciting and parents and other spectators were delighted to view the abilities of the juniors.
