There were no surprises on Day 2 of the Playfair Ltd. / Federal Bookmakers Barbados Squash Open on Tuesday night, June 20th at the Barbados Squash Club (BSC).
In the Men’s A plate competition the 2002 National men’s finalist, Fabian Goodridge, dispatched Craig Archer in straight games for the loss of six points, while national team hopeful John Cumberbatch was even more devastating against the up and coming Don Benn and dropped only three points while progressing to the Plate semi-finals tonight (Wednesday). The current national under-19 champion, Alex Garcia, had to struggle against the promising former junior national player, Steven Miller, before winning in four hard fought games 10/8 9/4 3/9 10/9 in 42 minutes, the longest match of the night.
In the Men’s B first round the majority of the matches held resulted in straight games victories for the higher ranked player. A former national captain, Mickey Armstrong, however was made to work hard by the impressive David Lewis before prevailing in four games 6/9 9/2 9/6 9/0 to reach the quarter final round which will also be played tonight (Wednesday).
