It was a learning experience for the young squash team which travelled to Edinburgh, Scotland to take part in the Millennium Commonwealth Youth Games (MCYG) over the week of August 7 to 14, 2000.
The team of four, accompanied by Coach Richard Walcott and Manager Monty Cumberbatch, was exposed to some of the best junior squash the Commonwealth has to offer with teams from England, Malaysia and Australia among others making the trip to compete in these inaugural Games.
Of the eight teams participating in the Squash competition, Barbados placed seventh by defeating Northern Ireland on the final day of competition 2-1. In round 1, the team put up a commendable fight against Wales, who placed 4th in the competition, but in the end went down 3-0. Fabian Goodridge, a newcomer to international competition, while down 0-2 in his match, fought in game 3 but eventually lost 10-9.
Scores in the final matches were:
Barbados v. Northern Ireland

Tracey Roett v. Tanya Owens: 1-9,2-9,1-9
Shawn Simpson v. Daniel Roberts: 9-2,9-7,10-8
