Barbados finishes in 4th place at Junior CASA XXV

The 25th Caribbean Junior Squash Championships in Tortola came to an exciting climax on the final weekend of July with Guyana defeating Bermuda 4-1 for the girls team title, while Trinidad and Tobago enjoyed an exciting nail biting 3-2 victory over favourites Guyana to claim the boys team title for the first time since 1989.

The Barbados teams in the playoffs for third place medals both lost. The girls team went down 1-4 to T&T, while the boys were beaten 2-3 by Bermuda. The overall team title was won by Guyana, with T&T second, Bermuda third and Barbados in fourth position out of 8 countries.

Barbadian squash princess Cheri-Ann Parris (age 16) also won the Caribbean Girls Under-19 title in straight games as expected from the #2 seed Tessa Martin (T?dad) in the final. This title is Cheri-Ann’s fifth straight Caribbean age group gold medal at Caribbean Junior Squash Championships.

Little Asha Gibbs placed 4th in the GU-13 age group and Matthew Hutchinson placed 6th in the BU-13 age group also. No other Barbadians played on the final day of the individual competition.

The two outstanding Barbadian players in the team event were Cheri-Ann Parris who played unbeaten in the #1 Under-19 position, as well as the tigerish, Matthew Hutchinson, who played his heart out to win all five of his team matches, even beating several opponents in the process who had finished ahead of him in the individual event!
